Title: GIS Specialist
Location: Alexandria, VA
GeoCGI is seeking a technical GIS Specialist responsible for managing and delivering geospatial data solutions for our clients. This position uses technical management and GIS skills to develop advanced geospatial solutions, provide technical leadership, and support our clients with innovative and technically sound results. The candidate should be skilled with Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (sUAS) or motivated to learn and integrate sUAS into collection and analysis activities. They are responsible for requirements gathering, planning, implementation, and compliance. The candidate is a skilled user of ArcGIS and handheld GPS units. He/She will be expected to communicate and coordinate with other staff and/or contractors, management, DoD clients, and installation personnel. The candidate must be able to learn quickly and provide innovative and unique solutions to frequently changing obstacles. The candidate will execute the responsibilities of a GIS Specialist supporting Federal and DoD Geospatial Programs, which include:
Experience or willingness to develop skills with sUAS. FAA Part 107 Certified sUAS Pilot preferred.
Ability to work with Installation personnel to assess current data holdings and prioritize collection efforts while on-site.
Ability to work with a wide variety of data sources including but not limited to, pdfs, Visio diagrams, Excel spreadsheets, and personal interviews to develop meaningful geospatial data.
Familiarity and experience with GPS devices, heads up digitizing, and SME interviews as methods for creating geospatial data.
Intermediate to advanced skills using Python to automate activities, improve data access and implement data management and development procedures.
Excellent written communication skills and documentation habits to include but not limited to; decisions, developed procedures, configuration, and/or custom scripts.
Flexible and agile attitude required to be able to respond to rapidly changing requirements and environments.
Communicate standards, methods, quality assurance/control processes, and metrics required.
Travel is required 25% of the time. The desired candidate will be required to plan their own travel. Accommodations may include on-base lodging.
Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, GIS, or computer related field
Proficiency with MS Office, and Esri products including ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Pro and Portal for ArcGIS
Basic Knowledge of Networking, Windows Server, IT Security and IIS
Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance
Part 107 Licensed sUAS Pilot
Comp TIA Security+
5 or more years experience including Esri ArcGIS environments, ArcGIS Portal,
Knowledge of DoD and Federal GIS Data Standards and Policy, including SDSFIE.
Experience in DoD Installation Geospatial Information and Services (IGI&S) or other DoD installation functional areas, and military working environments.
Experience working with sUAS for geospatial data collection, Drone2Map, or Pix4D for post processing
