The City of Hillsboro is excited to invite interested candidates to apply for our Planning Database Coordinator-GIS position. This role assists Development Services, Long Range and Transportation Planning and works in close collaboration with internal departments - Building, Public Works and Information Services, as well as external partners - Washington County, the US Postal Service, Emergency Services, etc.

Potential candidates for this position should have an interest in creating and managing data, and using that data to interface with planners, creating illustrative maps, and to updating maps such as zoning and comprehensive plan maps. The ideal candidate will bring a creative and out of the box mindset to work in communicating information and be a strong team player. We look forward to hearing from you!

Your Work Might Include:

• Managing and developing demographic, economic, and geospatial data, including the creation and management of databases and GIS products
• Developing models and implementing automated efficiencies
• Performing mapping and analysis for various planning and transportation projects using ESRI products
• Documenting work flow and processes including data sources
• Quickly producing high quality, accurate maps, graphics, and analyses in accessible formats
• Leading updates to Planning Department data, including comprehensive plan designations, zoning, and boundaries; familiarity with quality control and quality assurance tools for data validation
• Regular communicating and coordinating with internal City staff, and also with County and regional government staff as appropriate to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of the City’s goals and policies as they relate to planning
• Willingness to support other individuals and departments as needed; adapting to changing priorities
• Regularly communicating with internal departments and external agencies such as Washington County, Washington County Consolidated Communications Agency, Metro, etc.

General Statement of Duties:

The principal function of an employee in this class is to administer, support and maintain the City’s master address file and other planning related data sets in GIS within the City’s Planning Department; performs directly related work as required.

Training and Experience:

• Associate Degree or (preferred) Bachelor in Geographic Information Systems, Geography, Urban or Regional Planning, or a closely related field; and as assigned, up to two years of municipal related experience: or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
• Experience in conducting advanced spatial analysis or creating and maintaining geospatial data within an enterprise database environment using ESRI products in urban and transportation planning contexts.


• Valid Driver’s License and safe driving record.
