Title: GIS Analyst I
Location: Charlotte, NC
Theorem Geo Associates is a growing and multi-faceted consulting firm that provides managed services as well as IT, engineering, and strategic consulting for a variety of industries. Theorem Geo Associates is currently seeking a full-time Geographic Information System (GIS) Analyst that will provide support to various GIS related projects to include providing support to a large investor owned utility (IOU) in the Charlotte, NC area.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities of the position would include:
Support the attainment of necessary data and documents from various agencies in different states.
Provide support in the acquisition of database information and collect detailed and specific data, filter the data of pertinent information, and upload the data into current GIS platforms
Provide quality control by ensuring data is filed into proper classification parameters
Ability to follow guidelines, restrictions, as well as confidentiality requirements that must be followed by working jointly with primary customer on task.
Create and upload GIS attribute layers to include:
- Color-coded flags and warnings where sensitive resources are located
- Provide additional layers where users can input additional information that will be entered into the system.
Implement quarterly or periodic database updates to the current GIS system, as various databases are constantly being revised with new information. Thus, it is imperative that the GIS system data is kept up to date and current.
Support and assist in providing training sessions or presentations to other specialists and users on features and procedures for utilizing the system.
There will also be opportunities for growth by working on other projects that Theorem Geo is involved in, depending on the candidates performance and current workload on the primary project.
Be responsible managing, administering, and coordinating various GIS related tasks, workflows, and processes.
This individual will remain available to assist other employees working on either internal or external projects as it pertains to GIS related work.
Duties can include, troubleshooting software issues, assisting in the creation of efficient workflows, bringing efficiencies to less efficient existing workflows, as well as maintaining a working knowledge of the latest GIS trends, workflows, and software through research, future education, and conference attendance.
In lieu of the above tasks, this individual will remain a team player and must be willing to jump in and assist in the completion of time sensitive projects when necessary.
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelors degree in Geography, GIS, Computer Sciences, or related field preferred
Minimum Associates degree in Geography, GIS, Environmental Sciences, or related field
Exceptions on education can be made for exceptional candidates
Minimum of two years of experience working in GIS with progressively responsible experience in the design and development of GIS systems and applications.
Must have experience with ESRI Suite (to include ArcGIS Desktop, ArcMap, ArcGIS Online)
Ability to adapt to new GIS software
Proficiency working with ESRI ArcGIS software. This includes:
- Knowledgeable in GIS processes and workflows regarding ArcGIS for Desktop and/or ArcGIS Pro
- Working knowledge of ArcGIS for Server a plus
- Working knowledge of ArcGIS Online
Basic understanding of the follow development languages is a plus:
Enterprise level database knowledge desired; such as ArcSDE or SQL database (Microsoft SQL Server is a plus)
AutoCAD suite, and applications of MS Office Suite
Computerized mapping and digital data conversion, manipulation and analysis
GIS database administration and management principles, methods and techniques, including quality control methods and practices
Principles and practices of GIS analysis and design
Prior experience with some type of utility network is a plus.
Demonstrated knowledge of maintenance and quality assurance of a utility network in an enterprise GIS environment a strong plus
Environmental/Forestry background or experience
Experience with remote sensing
Experience working with LiDAR data/information
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively interface with both internal and external customers.
Demonstrated ability to train and develop personnel on the use of GIS programs, processes, and procedures.
Demonstrated ability to identify improvement opportunities and the initiative to implement change.
Demonstrated organizational and time management skills
Demonstrated ability to organize multiple projects and be self-led
Ability to work both efficiently independently and cooperatively in a team environment
Excellent problem-solving skills
Proficiency with data management, organization, a willingness to learn, and ability to ask questions to obtain desired results if unclear of the task at hand.
Valid state drivers license in good standing
