Department of Geosciences, FAU offers courses and research opportunities at both the FAU Boca Raton, FL and Davie, FL campuses. The three main areas of focus in the department are earth systems science, human-environmental systems and geo-information science. We place a strong emphasis on fieldwork in coastal and wetland environments as well as urban systems, geospatial techniques and remote sensing, and we encourage interdisciplinary research.
Our PhD program is 90 credits for students entering with a bachelorís degree. Students entering with a previous Masterís degree, may count up to 30 of their credits towards the 90 credit program. Students accepted to our PhD program may be eligible for Teaching Assistant (TA) support that includes 100% tuition waivers (excluding local fees) and a $20,000 per year stipend. In addition to TA funding, our top applicants for Fall 2018 may be eligible to receive a Presidential or Provost fellowship. The Presidential fellowship awards an additional $5,000 per year for two years and the Provost fellowship awards $2,500 for one year.
