Role: Geospatial Analyst

Role Summary: The Geospatial Analyst is responsible for day-to-day implementation of GIS for the Federal Business Unit. The role provides support to the Air Force onsite at Scott Air Force Base. This involves needs assessment & workflow analysis, data development, business process migration, analysis / map production and training users on geospatial concepts, software and data collection

Essential Functions:

Interpret and manipulate geospatial data to provide answers for decision makers
Develop innovative GIS solutions in the Defense environment
Work closely within a group of skilled GIS professionals and engineers to provide technical solutions to improve the Air Force operations
Enter Global Positioning System (GPS) data, field notes, or inventory survey information into geographic information system (GIS) environments so that information can be processed for analysis (supporting business-case decisions)
Design, create and develop spatial data sets and models using geospatial software tools (e.g., ArcGIS); develop processes and solutions using GIS, perform data conversions, and creates and publish various functional and mission related maps
Collect, process, and present field survey data (geophysical survey, geospatial location) for projects
Use Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Global Positioning Systems (GPS) technology to document and compile asset information, display digital data, and create detailed maps and drawings that contain multiple layers of geospatial and other information
Check all layers of prepared maps to ensure accuracy, identifying and marking errors and making corrections
Determine scales, symbology to be used for hard copies of computerized maps, using plotters
Monitor mapping work or the updating of maps to ensure accuracy, the inclusion of new or changed information, or compliance with rules and regulations
Identify and compile database information to create maps in response to requests
Ability to do spatial queries, table joins, pivot tables, etc. Ability to apply GIS expertise in multiple engineering disciplines (water resources, transportation, planning and survey)

Strong technical written and verbal communications skills, with the ability to clearly communicate concepts and ideas as well as the ability to create and direct written and oral instructions
Able to coordinate with program stakeholders
Self-starter who can work independently and as part of a multi-discipline team
Ability to implement GIS technologies, specifically Esri, in an enterprise environment
In depth knowledge of GIS data development, editing and quality control procedures

Experience Required:

Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Geography/GIS, Science, Engineering, Business or another related field*
3+ years total GIS experience; technical experience with ArcGIS**
Experience with GIS and CADD software including but not limited to GIS software such as ArcGIS for Desktop Advanced, Standard or Basic, ArcSDE, ArcGIS Server and other related ESRI products and CADD software such as AutoCAD or Map3D
GIS customization experience using resources such as Python scripting and ESRIs ModelBuilder
Experience with relational database management systems (RDBMS) such as Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server and/or Microsoft Access
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Products, Visio, and Windows operating system platform
Relevant experience working in a consulting environment which provides the requisite GIS and engineering knowledge, skills, and abilities

Ideal (in addition to required experience):

1+ year GIS implementation and/or project management experience
Existing DoD Secret Clearance
Enterprise geodatabase and SDE experience
Knowledge of Federal data standards including FGDC and SDSFIE

Work Environment:

Location: Onsite at Scott Air Force Base – St. Clair County, IL
Travel up to 20%
