A Geographic Information System (GIS) Technician/Cartographer (Research Associate I Special) position is available with the Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands. This position is located at Camp Roberts, California. The incumbent will provide technical support for the geospatial information used in range operations and perform cartographic design and production. The incumbent will work with the GIS Analyst to develop and maintain Spatial Data Standards for Facilities Infrastructure and Environment (SDSFIE) compliant geodatabases and Federal Geospatial Data Committee (FGDC)-compliant metadata.
Camp Roberts, at 42,784 acres, is the largest training area under the control of the California Army National Guard. The mission at Camp Roberts is to facilitate the training, mobilization and security of the National Guard, Army Reserve and Active Component units in support of federal, state and community missions. Camp Roberts is located in Monterey and San Luis Obispo counties on Hwy 101, approximately 9 miles north of Paso Robles. Cities near Camp Roberts have an abundance of recreational opportunities, picturesque landscapes, and attractive neighborhoods.
BS/BA degree in Geography, Natural Resources, or closely related disciplines with GIS coursework.
At least one year of professional (post graduate) experience in GIS
Experience with ArcGIS 10.x or higher and experience with GIS database development.
Ability to work as part of a team in a structured organization.
Ability to conduct work under harsh weather conditions and on uneven terrain.
Must have a valid driverís license or the ability to obtain a driverís license by the employment start date.
The successful candidate must be legally eligible to work in the U.S. by proposed start date; CEMML will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.
MS/MA degree in Geography, Natural Resources, or closely related disciplines with GIS coursework.
Demonstrated knowledge of geodatabase structure, functions, management, and development.
Experience with enterprise GIS.
Solid local and network file management skills.
Demonstrated experience working with GIS applications in natural resources management, cartography, and GPS hardware/software.
Knowledge of and experience with Army/DoD GIS programs and spatial data standards (SDSFIE).
The ability to work and meet established program standards and requirements.
Ability to work on multiple projects and provide customer support.
Experience collecting field data (GPS) and assisting with data analysis.
Experience providing GIS information for reports, presentations, and other products.
