Title: Senior GIS Technician

JOB SUMMARY AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The GIS Technician is responsible for Berkeley County Water and Sanitation and Stormwater Departments GIS functions and provides GIS support in the daily maintenance and presentation of geographic data. Also assists with questions and concerns related to mapping and deals courteously and effectively with fellow employees and citizens.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Perform edits on new and existing water, sewer and drainage systems utilizing as-builts in hard copies and CAD files, GPS field work and general ArcGIS Geodatabase queries and maintenance.
Provide mapping support to include editing existing and creating new maps using ArcGIS 10.x suite of software.
Maintain water and sewer service districts boundaries and boundary annexation information, wastewater treatment plants service area maps, communication tower service maps and quality control practices and procedures.
Performs complex stormwater processing functions such as analytical modeling and plot creation and assisting in maintaining the stormwater system inventory GIS database and network. Implements improvements in information flow procedures. Operates numerous hard-copy output devices. Process GPS field data using GPS Data Collector. Functions as a liaison between the Stormwater Management Department and GIS Department by providing technical assistance and data.
Works closely with BCWS and Stormwater staff.
Provides GIS technical support for new and existing GIS users.
Create standard system products and cartographic presentations of GIS themes.
Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:
Bachelor's Degree in geography, GIS or related field and one (1) year related experience with GIS/GPS concepts and applications; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience with ArcGIS 10.x, GPS, Microsoft Office and Microsoft Windows 10.
Knowledge or experience with ArcGIS Pro, CAD files, Python, Visual Basic and ArcGIS Geodatabase maintenance preferred.

A criminal background check will be completed on selected applicant if a current one (less than 3 years old) is not on file.
Excellent oral and written communications skills are required.
Must be able to work autonomously, be organized and detail oriented, and able to do multiple tasks.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to maintain precise and organized records.
Ability to accept payments and prepare purchase orders.
Ability to use small office equipment, computers and highly technical computer applications.
Ability to use or repair medium equipment and machinery.
This position requires the employee to sit and use hands to handle and finger objects; reach, pull and push with hands and arms; balance, crawl and crouch; use mental acuity and repetitive motion; and walk, talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to twenty-five (25) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
The work is regularly performed in a dynamic environment that requires sensitivity to change and responsiveness to changing goals, priorities and needs. Thirty-seven and one half (37.5) hours per week. Normal office hours are Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. with the ability to work after hours when necessary. Scheduled hours/days and location subject to change. May be required to work extra hours and to perform extra or different duties during emergency situations.
