Position Description:


To manage, direct, supervise and coordinate the activities of the Geographic Information System (GIS); to coordinate GIS activities with other departments, divisions, and outside agencies.

This is a responsible position and requires considerable technical skills and independent judgement. Duties primarily involve GIS software and database administration, map and data layer production, creating and maintaining interactive web mapping applications, and establishing and maintaining GIS standards and processes. Performs data gathering, conversion, analysis, manipulation, and processing of geospatial data using GIS software. Coordinates, develops, implements, and maintains City-wide or departmental GIS solutions. Performs vendor and project management duties for GIS and related efforts. Builds and maintains relationships with GIS professionals in other nearby organizations to look for collaboration and knowledge-sharing opportunities. Maintains an inventory of all GIS data layers and map resources, and creates GIS documentation, metadata, and training resources. Responsibilities also include assisting other departments in the design and preparation of cartographic products, and participating in client needs assessments. The position is required to maintain awareness of new GIS trends and technologies and to make recommendations to ensure that the City is leveraging modern, efficient, and effective GIS solutions.
