Join Sanborn’s award-winning team! Sanborn is looking for a GIS Analyst to work onsite with our federal government client in Montana.

Field offices maintain an extensive assortment of local interest data that lacks a national counterpart. This data needs to be managed and maintained. These datasets are used for display, analysis and decision making at the field office level. These local datasets are oftentimes only partially complete. There is a need to update and quality check these datasets to allow field offices to produce better quality map\analysis products and to make better informed decisions. The GIS Analyst will research, identify and acquire specific data within a state, focus on developing priority geospatial datasets, consolidate and organize existing datasets, and assess and report status and quality of geospatial data for landscape-level projects such as Sage Grouse.

This position is located in Miles City, MT.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in a natural resources field such as, but not limited to, ecology, natural resources management, wildlife biology, botany, forestry, fisheries, soils, etc. from an accredited university.
Three (3) years of experience in the application of GIS techniques to natural resource issues.

REQUIRED TECHNICAL EXPERIENCE:
•Professional experience of greater than 3 years with Esri’s ArcGIS Desktop software.
oPreference given to those candidates demonstrating at least 2 years of experience using ArcGIS Desktop10.3 or higher
•Demonstrated professional experience of greater than 3 years working in a multi-user, enterprise Geodatabase environment using ESRI’s ArcSDE software
oPreference will be given to candidates that demonstrate experience in designing and editing geodatabases with related tables to a state or national standard
•One or more years demonstrated professional knowledge in applying geospatial technologies to address natural resource and/or land management business requirements.
•Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information effectively to lay persons and geospatial technical experts alike.
•Demonstrated knowledge working with variety of geospatial datasets from sources within and external to the federal government.
oPreference will be given to those candidates demonstrating experience using Esri ModelBuilder, Python or similar products.

TASKS:
•Research, identify and acquire specific data from staff within the office to develop those data into geospatial layers that conform to defined data standards, which are topologically correct and are documented in accordance with Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC) and the required metadata standards. Data may exist in multiple formats such as paper records, digital raster products, and digital vector products.
•Convert all formats of data acquired into geospatial files using either file based geodatabase or a versioned enterprise geodatabase as directed
•Create a process and method for each dataset using appropriate workflows such that geospatial data flows from the resources area to the field datasets
•Prepare maps to demonstrate progress or to illustrate data complexities and issues
•Generate geospatial data, databases, analysis, maps, services and applications according to standards or specifications. Document any development activities for future usage within the organization.
•Communicate workflows for data maintenance and quality improvements to field office personnel
•Provide demonstrations and briefings for field office staff and managers on progress and results, for all aspects of the work.

If selected to fill the position, a candidate would be required to pass a drug screen and satisfy the requirements of a National Criminal History Check (NCHC) to verify the identity of the individual applying for clearance and to determine the individual’s suitability for the position.
