Position Description:

The City of Pittsburg in California seeks a GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEMS (GIS) ANALYST for the Information/Communications Systems Department.

Salary: $87,936.00 - $106,884.00 Annually

The Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Analyst assumes responsibility for mapping services and activities within the City using available technology, including Computer Aided Drafting (CAD), Geographic Information System (GIS), and Global Positioning Systems (GPS) for the development, deployment, and publication of City information. The GIS Analyst ensures that data quality and information is reliable and consistently maintained; serves as a technical resource providing technical support and analysis to a functional area; works on moderately complex projects where analysis of situations or data requires an evaluation of variables using specialized technical concepts; and perform other related work. The GIS Analyst position is located in the Community Development Department (CDD) and will work heavily with the CDD's engineering and planning staff as well support the GIS needs of all City Departments such as Public Works. This position receives general direction from the Information Technology Manager or their designee. Incumbents must be able to work a flexible schedule including evening and weekend hours.

The ideal candidate for GIS Analyst possesses the following:
•Knowledge of GIS software such as ESRI ArcGIS products (desktop & server), Geocortex, Autodesk AutoCAD Map, Land Development Desktop, Cartegraph, Cityworks and MapGuide
•Knowledge and principles of GIS, GPS, geography and other related areas
•Experience managing complex technology projects
•Outstanding communication skills with the ability to explain technical topics orally and in writing to people with various levels of understanding
•Knowledge of customer service principles, providing quality service, and training principles
•Strong attention to technical detail and accuracy
•Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills
•Ability to understand engineer design drawings, plats, and maps
•Ability to research and identify progressive and needed innovative technologies
•Able to work in a collaborative environment and interact and establish positive relationships with staff, community organizations, state/local agencies, and the members of the public
•Collaborate with any agencies and vendors when necessary for GIS related needs

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree in Geography, Planning, Engineering or related field, with specialization in GIS.

Experience: Three years of increasingly responsible related professional work experience in a GIS related field.

License/Certificate: Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Class C California Driver's License.
