Rappahannock Electric Cooperative (REC) is a progressive member owned utility with a service area that spreads from the Blue Ridge Mountains to the tidal waters of the Chesapeake Bay. REC serves over 165,000 connections in portions of 22 Virginia counties. REC has a job opening for the position of GIS Operator I in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Must possess High school diploma or GED (General Equivalency Diploma) required. Associate Degree or two (2) years of experience in GIS and Computer Aided Drafting. Additional college level courses or experiences related to job performance are preferred. Must have two (2) years of experience in GIS or AutoCad. Other drafting and computer experience desirable. Prefer to have experience with electric utility and fiber optics systems. Proficiency in GIS and AutoCad is required. Should possess thorough knowledge of drafting and mapping techniques. Experience with NISCs MapWise product is desired. Knowledge of basic electrical and land base symbols is desired. Must possess basic computer skills, to include a working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including, but not limited to: Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint as required by job responsibilities. Must be able to communicate and work effectively with individuals and small groups internal and external to the organization. Majority of work will be performed in the office with occasional trips to the field. Occasional overnight travel and extra hours are necessary for meetings, seminars, and conferences. Subject to work, overtime may be required. Subject to work long hours outside of regular work schedule during emergency conditions.
