Position Description:

Spectral Sciences, Inc. (SSI), a small, employee-owned business dedicated to innovation and excellence in basic and applied research for over 35 years, seek a highly motivated and talented individual to work in small teams with SSI scientists and engineers on a variety of projects in sensor and environment modeling and data analysis algorithm development. Typical projects include development of physical models of complex interactions of light and matter, and sensor response, development of advance algorithms for enhancement and exploitation of signals in clutter. Extraction of information from large geospatial/spectral datasets. Development of processing architectures and prototyping software for use within our in-house sensors and imagers. The ideal candidate for this position is comfortable working independently and in small groups to develop ideas that meet customer needs, solicit funding, write proposals, and carry through phases of development from concept to prototype.
Desired Qualifications:
o An MS or PhD degree in the physical sciences (physics, atmospheric sciences, image science, optics, etc.) or engineering (electrical, aerospace, mechanical, etc.).
o Experience should include the development of fundamental physical models, data analysis algorithms, and/or sensor concepts involving remote sensing for aerospace, industrial, or medical applications.
o Experience programming with C/C++, Python and/or Fortran, shell scripting, Unix command line tools.
o US citizenship and ability to obtain a US Government Security Clearance are required.
Additional Factors Considered:
o Post-degree work experience.
o Post-Doctoral work is desirable and counts towards work experience.
o Proficiency in current methods of mathematical modeling of physical phenomena.
o Experience in the development of scientific and engineering software.
o Familiarity with molecular spectroscopy and radiative transfer phenomena.
o Familiarity with spatial image processing and analysis, and geospatial information system (GIS) algorithms.
o Familiarity with data science including analysis and reduction techniques, numerical algorithms, control systems, big data and deep learning concepts.
o Experience transitioning software to microprocessors, FPGAs, and/or GPUs.
o Demonstrated accomplishment in team building, customer relations, technical marketing, and proposal writing.
o A track record of written, oral, and interpersonal communications skills.
