geocgi is looking for a Geospatial Technician who will work closely with our NATO JWC GIS Project Manager and support team in Stavanger, Norway. The candidate will provide full lifecycle data management for GIS products and exercise support and develop tools and applications that leverage the ArcGIS REST and Python API allowing automation of a variety of GIS tasks such as automating map production, publishing web services, updating data sources across different databases, web map generation, and more. This individual will support critical automation tasks to help manage content, deployments, metrics, user access, and other tasks. Working within an Agile-based process, the person in this role will be responsible for developing data management solutions for products and exercises.

The candidate will support the NATO Joint Warfare Centre Scenario Branch / Exercise Production Division / Exercise Training and Innovation Directorate, on-site in Stavanger, Norway. The candidate will execute the responsibilities of a GIS Technician supporting Defense Geospatial Programs, which include:

• GIS technical proficiency and experience with Esri ArcGIS
• Demonstrated proficiency with geospatial data management lifecycle
• Experience working in an enterprise Esri ArcGIS environment
• Data preparation, management, and maintenance
• Scriptwriting for automation of GIS tasks and procedures
• Solve and articulate complex problems with application design, development, and user experiences
• Write technical design specifications and support documentation
• Suggests new technologies and approaches, often demonstrating and championing their use
• Data Model support and compliance
• Communicate standards, methods, quality assurance/control processes, and metrics


• Bachelor’s Degree in Geography, GIS, Cartography, Survey, or IT related field
• 4+ years of experience in GIS with cartographic, analyst, editor, database or similar duties
• Understanding and Knowledge in geography, scientific methods and GIS principles
• Experienced and knowledge in the implementation of geospatial data models including DoD/NATO models and standard map products
• NATO Secret Clearance or equivalent


• Experience with Esri software applications and spatial analysis extensions including; Data Reviewer, Geoprocessing Tools, and Spatial Analyst
• Multi-User geodatabase editing experience including working with versioning and replication
• Experience developing and using tools for automation of QA/QC procedures
• Experienced interacting with SMEs and documenting issues/requirements
• Experience with multiscale map production workflows with an emphasis on complex representational models
• Experience with Esri’s Production Mapping Extension for ArcGIS Desktop and Server
• Experience with ArcGIS Server and Portal for ArcGIS
• Scripting and querying with Python, T-SQL, SQL, PL/SQL, or other RDBMS tools
• Experience with map projections and data transformations
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Ability to work independently and proactively to take initiative and solve complex problems
