Title: GIS Manager
Location: Midvale, UT USA
The GIS Manager supports our growing number of projects around the globe that provide user-friendly, low-cost land administration systems that promote economic development and full financial inclusion by helping individuals in developing countries to establish formal ownership of their property. You manage the GIS work for MLG projects from inception through successful completion. You will lead the GIS effort by planning, coordinating, proactively identifying and resolving issues, removing barriers, identifying and scheduling resources, communicating and completing the project. The GIS manager provides important GIS, surveying, and mapping expertise to the team.
What You Will Do:
Ensure that output of the GIS team is high-quality, timely, and effective
Research, obtain and manage geospatial data from different countries
Provide the GIS function across diverse international projects
Manage large scale drone mapping projects. Use drones and a range of GPS tools in the field to capture the location of property assets and create and maintain the structures necessary for GIS data storage.
Select and manage hiring drone vendors, purchasing drones and surveying instruments, and reviewing technical aspects of contracts
Provides technical user support for all aspects of geospatial data and software
Perform quality assurance of spatial and textual information
Monitor GIS projects and report status and other key communications to project team members
Develop tools for loading/transferring GIS data between different systems and for manipulating, analyzing, and presenting geographical information by creating programs to convert GIS information from one format to another
Use tools to connect, join and merge different GIS datasets for the objective of creating new information and/or investigating patterns and trends including population growth figures, planning information and predicting market capacity potential for enterprise and business incubator development based on industry demand and consumer socio-economic factors
What You Should Have:
Bachelor of Science (Masters degree preferred) in GIS or related fields including but not limited to surveying and urban planning, computer science, geography, mathematics or statistics, or software engineering
Minimum of 6 years of working experience with GIS software (QGIS, ArcGIS GeoServer and similar software) including developing large-scale GIS projects.
4+ years of experience leading or supporting GIS projects
Experience participating in and/or managing multidisciplinary work teams, where members have widely varying skill sets and experience levels
Strong presence and self-confidence. Must be able to use tact when presenting project status, risks and issues to business executives and other project stakeholders.
Team-focused with ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and business stakeholders from diverse backgrounds
Strong analysis and problem-solving skills
Strong communication skills and ability to work with our staff and customers around the world
What We Hope You Have:
Demonstrated team leadership experience, both informal and formal
Experience working with land administration, land information systems or related areas
Experience with remote sensing, surveying and GIS, including conducting and supervising significant amounts of field work for data capture or data validation
Experience with the use and manipulation of complex databases and spreadsheets Experience with SQL and Postgres/PostGIS for querying spatial data
Experience with programming, APIs, cloud computing environments (Google cloud or AWS) and contributions to open-source software. Experience with python scripting for handling and analyzing spatial data (Arcpy, PyQGIS, Gepandas).
