Position Description:

GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEM ANALYST
We are seeking a high-energy, talented individual who enjoys project diversity to assist the Gallatin County GIS Supervisor in designing, developing and implementing geographic information systems that accommodate the needs of all users for the purpose of delivering accurate and timely information while automating tasks and workflows. The Gallatin County GIS Office is part of the Planning Department that services all other County Departments, Elected offices, Fire Districts, Boards, 911, and the general public.
The GIS Analyst will be responsible for GIS system maintenance and development and serve as the technical point of contact. This position will be fully integrated into our team, which will involve assisting with all aspects of department work, including field data collection, map output, high-level data analysis and reporting, public assistance, user support, backup and recovery, customized applications, enterprise database applications, as well as internal and external browser-based tools.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate must be an advanced user of ESRI client and server products, experienced with RDBMS and Geodatabase design, be skilled in the development of browser-based GIS applications, and possess a competency in geography and cartography. Knowledge of JavaScript, Python and Arcade scripting languages are critical to this position. Strong communication skills and the ability to work as an effective team player, possessing a fervent desire and ability to share and promote technology is a must.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: The required knowledge, skills and abilities are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to a master’s degree from an accredited college or university in geography, cartography, earth science, computer science, or a bachelor’s degree in a related field and a minimum of three to five (3-5) years’ work experience in GIS operations, or a GISP certification. This position must possess a valid Montana driver’s license.
As a condition of hire, the final candidate will be required to successfully pass a criminal history check and background investigation.
