Position Description:
The Department of Geosciences at Fort Lewis College is seeking a Visiting Instructor of Geography and GIS for the 2021-2022 academic year (Aug - May). The Visiting Instructor will teach Introductory and Intermediate GIS courses, along with Weather and Climate, an introductory Physical Geography course. The position will work closely with other faculty in the Department of Geosciences, which offers, among other things, a GIS certificate program. This position will contribute to courses in that certificate program.
The candidate will be expected to teach primarily using ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Completion of an M.S. or higher in GIS, Geography, Geosciences, or a related field by Aug 28, 2021
Two or more years of experience using Esri GIS software products, including ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online
Ability to teach GIS at the introductory and intermediate levels
Ability to teach an introductory Weather and Climate course
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
PhD in GIS, Geography, Geosciences, or a related field
Experience teaching college-level courses in Geography and/or GIS
Four or more years of experience using Esri GIS software products, including ArcGIS Pro, ArcMap, and ArcGIS Online, as applied to the physical and natural sciences
Two or more years of experience using alternate GIS software, such as QGIS
Familiarity with the Geography of the Four Corners region
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Teach 27 contact hours per year (~12-15 per semester)
Fall semester courses will include GEOG310 Introduction to Computer Mapping and GIS, GEOG235 Weather and Climate
Spring semester courses in the spring semester: GEOG310 Introduction to Computer Mapping and GIS and GEOG350 Intermediate GIS (Vector Analysis)
Supervise upper-level undergraduate students on semester-long GIS independent study projects
Advise students about career and academic opportunities associated with GIS
Participate in Departmental Faculty meetings
Work with GIS Certificate Coordinator to plan and implement changes to the program.
Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities
Maintains knowledge and awareness of digital accessibility including the American with Disabilities Act and Section 508
Produces and remediates digitally accessible materials in accordance with FLC standards
Perform other duties as assigned

COMPENSATION
Salary is $39,000, for the 9 month academic term, plus a comprehensive benefits package.
