Title: Geospatial Database Engineer
Location: Remote. Stavanger, Norway
geocgi is looking for a Geospatial Database Engineer to support the Scenario Branch at the NATO Joint Warfare Centre (JWC) in Stavanger, Norway. This position will begin as remote with travel on-site and may transition to full on-site support. The role of the Geospatial Database Engineer is to design, develop (including demonstrate & review), deliver, and maintain a new Scenario Branch database with geospatial integration. This includes the implementation of new data schemas, fields, and domains; employing database development knowledge and best practices to address performance, scalability, efficiency and configuring and testing new database features after reviews.
The Geospatial Database Engineer will be a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and responsible for consulting with JWC Scenario Branch and Exercise Production staff in database architecture and design to all cross functions in the division. Candidates must be knowledgeable of database technology, design, development, and administration. Furthermore, JWC is a multi-tasking environment that demands innovation, communication, and organizational skills.
Candidates will be expected to:
Design, develop, (including demonstrate & review) deliver and maintain Scenario database artifacts.
Assure the data repository and object relationships.
Configure the database.
Extract, amend, and load data.
Preserve data integrity.
Handle proprietary, classified, and unclassified data.
Monitor the performance of hardware and software.
Interface with SMEs, designers, interdisciplinary groups, and Branch/Division leads.
The following are requirements of the potential candidate:
Bachelors or masters in geography, computer science, engineering, mathematics, GIS, or a related field, depending on position level
5+ years designing and managing a complex database infrastructure or related experience
Active US Secret Security Clearance
Demonstrated proficiency with ArcGIS Enterprise, Portal for ArcGIS/ArcGIS Online
The following are desired capabilities and experience of the potential candidate:
Strong initiative characteristics and teaming skills.
Experience managing the front-end and back-end database functions and performance.
Strong background in database design and development.
Expert knowledge of all aspects of SQL Server including SQL Server development.
Good understanding of key design principles for data architecture, design, and development.
Understanding of the workflows and functions of JWC/NATO is preferred.
Certifications (GISP, Security+, Esri, Microsoft, PMP)
ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Online, and Portal for ArcGIS Administration
Ability to work independently and proactively to take initiative to solve complex problems
Excellent writing and communication skills
