Organization: Airspace Link, Inc
Title: Geospatial Technical Architect
Location: Detroit, MI or Remote
Airspace Link, Inc. is hiring a Geospatial Technical Architect to help us deliver projects and solutions using our AirHub platform. Our AirHub products, solutions and projects support our mission of creating safe and effective drone operations that are in harmony with the communities in which they fly. Yes, the Jetsonian future is finally upon us and we need help creating the future of unmanned aerial vehicles!
This is a position for an experienced Geospatial Technical Architect, but you don't have to be a rock star, a ninja, or a superhero to apply. In fact, if you self-identify in any of those categories, we'd rather you don't. We're looking for someone with a strong track record of leading a services team to implement and integrate our AirHub platform and support various projects that leverage our AirHub data and technology.
If you have combination of technical and project management know how that has been put to use in delivering solid and reliable service work, you have the experience we're looking for. You will be collaborating with like-minded professionals and report to the VP of Operations.
The Airspace Link team is headquartered in Detroit, MI and, most importantly for you, it is where most of our fun-loving crew works. This is also where most of the engineering action is. While we do recognize the best person for the job may live somewhere else, we believe you’ll be most successful working side by side with the core team. Preference will be given to Detroit based candidates.
We strongly encourage candidates of all different backgrounds and identities to apply. Each new hire is an opportunity for us to bring in a different perspective, and we are eager to further diversify our company. Airspace Link is committed to building an inclusive, supportive place for you to do the best and most rewarding work of your career.
About the Job
As an emerging startup, our tech teams are small but fast and nimble. You'll be working with analysts and engineers to prove out new data, analytics, models and rapid solutions using a well-tuned geospatial platform and data framework which serves as the engine that supports frequent shipments of geospatial features, services and data. We work on a regular cadence of sprints within larger defined epics and projects. You’ll be on point for leading service projects and initiatives while working alongside the team to help with strategic technical tasks.
We are currently in a phase of expanding our geospatial environments even further into the cloud and there are many opportunities to push the limits of core geospatial data and technology by harnessing all that the cloud has to offer. Exciting!
Much of the work will be proactive and fast paced, but never frantic. We value a calm company and deliberate, concerted effort. Here are some examples of what you might be working on day to day:
· Engage with company leadership and business development teams to help craft conceptual services and solutions that UAS stakeholders need to successfully leverage AirHub data and technology
· Scope and estimate cost and level of effort for POC initiatives, projects and solutions
· Oversite and support of installation, configuration, and administration of full stack of geospatial technology (web apps, web services, database)
· Blocking out technical approaches to services and solutions and identifying optimal technology, data and methods to deliver them
· Lead services team in project delivery and communication with account managers and customers
· Supervise and mentor technical team members defining best practices and professional growth
· Research and integrate new cloud and geo resources, technology and methods to extend and optimize the AirHub stack
· Work with developer and data teams to transition project solutions into AirHub platform products
· Troubleshoot technical issues as necessary
Everyone at Airspace Link is here to do the best work of their career, so we work on systemic problems and try to avoid individual blame.
We’re looking for a clear analytical thinker and leader who makes decisions based on strategic goals, KPIs, and value based outcomes. Someone who can take an idea and see it through challenges to a successful finish from beginning to end and pick up and apply useful lessons along the way. You’re adept at delivering solutions that create raving customers or knocking down issues before anyone knows they exist. You’ll fend off complexity and find a simpler path. You’ll learn from your team and they’ll learn from you.
Unless you’re specifically raising the alarm to signal otherwise, we’ll expect that you have what you need to fulfill your responsibilities and are able to do what needs to be done to deliver and support. You’re someone who thrives on a high level of autonomy and responds with a high level of accountability.
We aren’t looking for ideological clones, but we are looking for people who share our basic values and beliefs about how to build creative solutions that are sustainable and perform well. You will be expected to step up to the plate with enough geospatial technology chops to support in the design, staging and roll-out geospatial resources. This will require working in:
· Esri ArcGIS Online / Enterprise
· Esri Desktop Software and Extensions
· Jupyter Notebook
· Azure Services
We’ll also call upon you to bring the following experience and qualifications:
· 5 Years of experience leading projects and delivery teams
· Knowledge of UAS domain
· Project management skills
· Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
· Understanding of geospatial data, advanced models and geoprocessing services
· Fluency in implementing and support solutions in cloud environments
· Familiarity with Esri ArcGIS Enterprise Products
We value people who can take a stand yet commit even when they disagree. We subject ideas to rigorous debate, but we remember that we’re here for the same purpose: to do good work together. Charging the trust battery is part of the work.
About Our Pay & Benefits
Let’s get real for a moment. Airspace Link, by all definitions, is a startup. Some may view this as a professional risk. Others may view this as a unique opportunity in an emerging industry to get a fresh start with a huge potential upside. We hope you’re the latter.
We aim to be competitive but won’t be making any headlines. We offer a full health benefit package that is tiered depending on your tenure with Airspace Link. In other words, our benefits move from good, to better, to best.
We support a life well lived away from work. None of our benefits are about trapping people at the office or cajoling them into endless overtime. Just the opposite. We’re all about reasonable working hours, ample vacation time, fitness, wellness, and healthy living.
How To Apply
Please send an application tailored to this position that speaks to us. Introduce yourself as a colleague. Show us the future. We’d like to hear about some of the things you’ve been working on or are interested in.
We value good communication, and solid writing is part of that. We hope to see a well-constructed cover letter along with your resume/CV. There’s no prize for being first, so take your time. We’ve hired candidates on the strength of their writing alone, so don’t overlook this simple request.
We’d also love to see examples of your handiwork. We appreciate that it can be hard to share representative examples when you’ve been working on a secure stack or with commercial solutions, so anything you can scrape together will be good… a side project is great, even a well-crafted diagram that illustrates what you’ve built!
