DATAMARK, our Public Safety GIS team, consists of a skilled group of subject matter experts in Public Safety and GIS whose mission is to provide the necessary education, fact-finding, and solutions to ease the transition to and develop workflows for NG9-1-1. DATAMARK is the go-to authority on GIS data for NG9-1-1. Its data-forward, full-service but configurable NG9-1-1 solutions provide the highest levels of Public Safety GIS data completeness and accuracy. Formed in early 2018, the DATAMARK team has quickly grown to be the only provider nationwide of SaaS solutions for public safety GIS for NG9-1-1.

Michael Baker International is seeking a Software Development Engineer to join our Public Safety team. This is an opportunity to work within a dynamic and growing industry, and with one of the leading NG9-1-1 GIS solutions and services firms. We are building a technical-minded and collaborative team of people who desire being part of a dynamic unit delivering Public Safety solutions for local governments.

The Software Development Engineer will be responsible for the administration and development of our DATAMARK Software as a Service (SaaS) solutions. DATAMARK designs and builds cloud-native applications that provide mapping and analysis functions to meet the needs of our clients within the 9-1-1 and Public Safety markets.

The successful candidate will have the ability to work remotely.

Essential Job Functions
The Software Development Engineer designs, develops, enhances, debugs, and implements GIS applications and troubleshoots production problems related to software applications. The successful candidate will implement change requests and resolve defects as defined in release plans; research, test, build, and coordinate the conversion and/or integration of new products. They will address problems of systems integration, compatibility, and multiple platforms; consult with project teams and end users to identify application requirements; assist in performing feasibility analysis on potential future projects.

Other duties involve:
•Develop modern web applications that follow industry-standard design patterns, development methodologies, and deployment models.
•Contribute to the development of large-scale web applications using modern JavaScript frameworks.
•Work collaboratively with other team members within an agile software development.
•Leverage web-based languages, cloud technologies, Python and Geospatial libraries to create streamlined custom web tools.
•Automate geoprocessing workflows using existing software applications or scripting languages such as Python.
•Work with large scale enterprise databases to develop optimized SQL queries and stored procedures.
•Automate the software delivery pipeline using continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) framework in cloud.

•Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or relevant field
•3-5 years of professional experience in programming and exposure to cloud-based deployments
•Strong development skills using HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, TypeScript, and Python.
•Knowledge of data analysis, data preparation, data automation, and software development concepts
•Knowledge of databases and data warehouse structures
•Knowledge of GIS and Mapping systems
•Soft skills: problem solver, results/task oriented, proactive, self-starter
•Presentation skills: clear and fluent communicator, ability to discuss project issues/topics with users of different technical proficiencies, ability to present status orally and written, ability to present demos/POCs
•Multi-tasking: ability to work on several projects at the same time and well as provide development and production support

Desired qualifications:
•Strong front-end and back-end web application development skills.
•Experience in WebGIS platforms like Esri, Mapbox, Leaflet or similar GIS platforms.
•Experience with Cloud Services (AWS, GCP, Azure)
