The National Park Service GIS Program has developed a very successful internship program in collaboration with Southern Utah University’s Intergovernmental Internship Cooperative (SUU IIC). The program places students and recent graduates in GIS internships providing real-world federal land management experience in park units nationwide. We just announced 12 openings on the SUU IIC website at https://www.suu.edu/iic/internships. The position announcements close on August 6th. The internships begin on October 18th with varying end dates between 4-8 months. Park housing is available at many units and the position hourly rates run between $15-$20 per hour.
Applicants must be a U.S. citizen or permanent legal resident and enrolled at an institution of higher education or within two years post graduate. Graduate students and recent graduates who are currently pursuing or have obtained a GIS degree/certificate and/or work experience in GIS are preferred. Prior to starting this position, a federal government security background clearance will be required.
