Position Description:

As a GIS Web Developer at Railinc, you will develop, maintain, and support new or existing GIS applications, applying the best practices of software development. Responsibilities include the ability to work independently and as part of the Location Management (GIS) Team to deliver quality solutions across all phases and layers of the software lifecycle.

Collaborate with the business and UX team to create appropriate application user interfaces using ESRI/GIS tools - including Esri's JavaScript API. Assist with mock-up's, user interface design, and component driven development. Provide feedback to UX team. Follow the Railinc development process and suggest improvements.

Leadership (Technical):
Assist in the development and sharing of the Railinc GIS best practices and development procedures for spatial application development. Exhibit GIS technical leadership in GIS web development. Identify new technologies and approaches that may improve our quality, productivity, and capabilities. Delegate, and coordinate functional development tasks as needed. Drive innovation in the development, release and operations processes.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Ability to provide technical expertise, specific to web GIS development, to others and explain concepts to technical staff. Ability to operate independently with attention to detail. Ability to communicate and follow up professionally (written and oral) both internally and externally within the organization – including application documentation.

3 years of experience working with the Esri JavaScript API. Comfortable with front-end, and knowledgeable of middle tier and backend technologies. Knowledgeable of front-end technologies like Angular and React, with hands on experience in these technologies a big plus. Web Service SOAP/REST expertise in the last 2-3 years is a plus. Experience with Agile software development methodology. Expertise in using version control software like git, etc. Strong understanding of deployment processes, deployment environments, production application trouble shooting techniques etc. Experience working with AWS cloud native services is not necessary, but would be a plus. Experience deploying application components in an AWS environment is a plus. Experience in using Aurora RDS for databases is a plus. Working experience of Esri GIS software (ex. ArcGIS Pro / Desktop, Enterprise) is a plus. Configuring and maintaining Esri ArcGIS Enterprise servers – including service publishing is a plus. Working knowledge with Esri’s SDE (Spatial Database Engine) is a plus.

Bachelors degree in Computer Science or equivalent field desired and 3 years of technical experience or
Master’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent field desired and 1 year of technical experience.
