The role:

Join our team and operate the state highway video vehicle to capture footage for ODOTís Digital Video Log program. You will travel all over the beautiful state of Oregon and process video images and road asset data. In this role, you will also maintain data in our TransInfo database and answer customer questions. The goal of this recruitment is to fill this position at an engineering specialist 2 level. However, we encourage candidates who meet the minimum qualifications for an engineering specialist 1 ($2,844 - $4,347) to apply, as we may consider underfilling the position until the selected candidate meets the minimum qualifications for an engineering specialist 2. Underfill training will not exceed three years.

A day in the life:

Maintain data in our TransInfo road asset database.

Make basic engineering calculations and research plans to determine various data elements.

Recommend changes to highway mile point equations, numbering of interchange ramps and new highway alignments.

Translate and enter construction plans and other data into TransInfo.

Collect field data for statewide roadway field inventories for agency programs.

Drive a state-owned passenger van with computer equipment and record and review road feature data on highways, roads and streets.

Maintain the unitís field inventory collection manual.

Assist in producing and the quality assurance of data, maps and reports using computer queries and Geographic Information System (GIS) techniques.

Frequent overnight travel around the state is required June through September.

Work in a vehicle on a varying network of highways and in varying conditions, operating a computer tablet and video equipment while vehicle is in motion.

Must be able to drive, walk, stand, bend, stoop and sit for extended periods of time and lift up to 60 pounds.

Roadway data collection requires working in all weather and traffic conditions.

When not in the field, work in a typical office or remote work environment using a computer.

What we need for the engineering specialist 2 minimum qualifications:

Three and one-half years (42 months) of sub-professional engineering experience.

OR

An associate's degree in engineering technology from a community college or technical school of engineering and two years of experience directly related to engineering.

OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience (such as a bachelorís degree in engineering plus six monthsí engineering experience).

Note: If you are currently a transportation maintenance specialist 2 (TMS2) or have been one in the past, in addition to your completed application, please attach section three of your TMS2 position description to receive full credit for your related work. If your experience includes work in multiple maintenance disciplines (e.g. highway, sign, bridge, striping or landscape) please attach section three of the position description for each of the relevant disciplines.
