Bureau of Planning and Sustainability:
The current vacancy is Limited Duration. Persons appointed to limited term positions will be designated as regular or temporary employees whose appointment shall not exceed two (2) years except for the extension of grants or funding from outside sources.

This will be challenging and exciting work managing, integrating, analyzing, and sharing GIS data and mapping products to meet the needs of Bureau of Planning and Sustainability (BPS) and City of Portland projects and programs. It will require sophisticated GIS analysis skills, as well as project management and client and stakeholder engagement experience.

Specific duties include:
Perform complex GIS data maintenance, manipulation, analysis, extraction, and generation assignments.
Coordinate with BPS project teams, community-based partner organizations, and other external stakeholders on spatial data collection methods, data management, analysis, and mapping products to address the City of Portland’s core values and BPS’s priorities.
Help to maintain the City of Portland’s zoning data and present that data through web applications such as PortlandMaps, BPS’s interactive zoning map, and BPS’s Map App.
Create and improve analytical models to support the needs of BPS’s planning and sustainability programs, such as BPS’s Buildable Lands Inventory GIS model.
Work with BPS Data Analysts to analyze and share demographic data for use by BPS and other City of Portland bureaus.
Prepare, design, and produce a variety of maps and other graphic representations displaying layers and attribute data from the database, using cartographic techniques to represent spatial data; develop and maintain data layers, using GIS tools and relational databases; enter attribute data pertaining to specific features into a relational database; incorporate maps, charts, spreadsheet data, and text into reports and websites.
Consult with clients to define requirements of GIS requests; research and evaluate available data and propose methods to be used; assist in the development of production schedules for mapping and analysis projects.
Assist in installing and testing new GIS software; assist in resolving and troubleshooting GIS-related problems and requests; maintain computer hardware and accessories; provide GIS software training for bureau personnel.
