GIS Analysts are responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting all administrative aspects of an agency’s enterprise geographic information system (GIS). As a member of the GIS team within the Nevada Division of Water Resources’ (NDWR) Hydrology Section, the incumbent will perform operational support tasks including water right location mapping and review of permits; data management including enterprise geodatabases with versioning; provide GIS Technical support; create professional cartographic maps for field work, wall display, and mobile devices; construct and administer Web GIS applications and services; document workflows and provide GIS training; design and implement mapping solutions to meet the needs of division projects; as well as perform quality assurance and quality control of datasets.
The incumbent will use Public Land Survey System data and calculate bearing-distance to locate groundwater wells, surface water outtakes, and places of use in support of water rights mapping. The incumbent will work closely with basin specialists to analyze permits and certificates for water rights. ESRI’s ArcGIS Pro is the standard desktop software used for GIS efforts, while ArcMap is still supported. Experience with open-source software, Python scripting, SQL scripting, and web map development is desired. Experience with environmental monitoring, assessment, modeling, or permitting is desired but not a requirement for the position.
In a continuing effort to keep up with GIS technology, the incumbent will attend GIS training and conferences as NDWR resources allow. While experience with ArcGIS Enterprise (Portal) and ArcGIS Online is preferred, the GIS team is seeking applicants who are interested in learning and applying GIS enterprise management.
