Title: GIS Specialist

Role: GIS Specialist
Role Summary: The candidate will remotely support the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Energy and Infrastructure Team (E & I Team) in the Southern Nevada District Office; the position will be part-time (20 hours per week) only. The candidate will aid E & I Team staff with the compilation, accession, and processing of geospatial data associated with the renewable energy application process.

This role will be responsible for the following:
-Acquire as-built GIS information from various internal and external sources and incorporate this data into SDE. Data source types may include shapefiles, KMLs, or other geospatial data.
-Manage existing or create new AGOL applications, data collection services, and web maps, including StoryMaps, Survey123, or Collector applications.
-Run mapping products such as AGOL or ArcGIS Desktop for managers during meetings, or screen share data with managers and turn on/off different layers as needed.
-Create maps as needed, such as PDF maps with varying levels of detail and information.
-Track, compile, file, and create metadata for projects.
-Assist BLM in creating, defining, and documenting data standards, data quality processes, data, and metadata.
-Provide legal descriptions using Public Land Survey System (PLSS) data and the shapefiles for projects.
-Establish data standards for geodatabases.
-Perform other minor GIS functions, such as calculating area, area developed out of a specific other area, create relationship classes, etc.
-Assist with cadastral requirements for geospatial information.
-Ensure there are connections between provided geospatial data for transmission lines, projects, and substations, and verify this data against legal land descriptions.
-Work with AutoCAD data and convert to shapefiles or other data types compatible with ESRI products.
-Skilled in the use of the entire ArcGIS Suite (Desktop, Pro, AGOL)
-2 years of experience or greater preferred.
-Experienced with geospatial database management, migration, and data quality control.
-Ability to convert data from various sources to ESRI compatible formats.
-Experience with AutoCAD is a plus.
-Experienced with the creation and maintenance of metadata.
-Familiar with legal land descriptions and PLSS.
-Must be comfortable with giving technical demonstrations and responding to geospatial requests during public meetings.
-Prior experience with energy utilities data or federal land managing agencies is strongly preferred, but not required.
