Title: Adjunct for introductory GIS / cartography course

The School of Integrated Sciences’ Geography Program at James Madison University seeks a part-time instructor to teach one or two sections of GEOG 215: Introduction to Geographic Information Science and Cartography for the Spring, 2023 semester. Each section will contain approximately 30 undergraduate students. Currently the classes are scheduled for Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:35 – 10:50, and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:10 – 12:25, but it may be possible to change the times to fit the instructor’s schedule. Course instruction will take place in person at JMU’s Harrisonburg, VA campus, and class materials created by faculty members who have taught the class in the past will be available for use if desired.
GEOG 215. Introduction to Geographic Information Science and Cartography (3 credits)
Basic principles of geographic information systems and map design, including their use in spatial analysis and information management.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Teach one or two sections of GEOG 215 within the School of Integrated Sciences during the Spring, 2023 semester. Classes begin on January 17 and finish on May 11.
A master's degree or Ph.D. in a relevant field is preferred, but an exceptional candidate with a bachelor’s degree and considerable professional experience in GIS and cartography may be considered.
The successful candidate will be paid $3978 per section.
