Title: GIS/Python/Scientific Programmer
Spatial Front Inc. (SFI) is looking for a software developer to join our team to support our NOAA Geospatial Services and Technical Support contract. We are looking for someone to provide scientific programming support for OCS’ AWS cloud-based applications and services: NOAA’s nowCOAST and Precision Marine Navigation dissemination services. nowCOAST is a GIS-based web mapping portal providing real-time observations, analyses, tide predictions, model guidance, watches/warnings, and forecasts via web mapping services and map viewer to support mariners and coastal emergency managers across the U.S. Precision Marine Navigation dissemination service provides critical maritime information directly to mariners onboard ships using international S-100 standards. This position is remote.

--Assist in writing and modifying Python-based data processing and ingest programs to support the dissemination of real-time and regularly updated NOAA products (e.g. weather and ocean observations, marine weather forecasts, oceanographic forecast model guidance, bathymetric data) via the S-100 framework and GIS web services (e.g. OGC protocols) to support Precision Navigation and nowCOAST projects.
--Assist in design, development, testing of new system components (AWS infrastructure and code) as well as with maintenance of existing code
--Assist in creating/operating automated testing and continuous integration pipeline to facilitate rapid deployment of new versions of code to AWS cloud infrastructure as part of DevOps workflow
--6-8 years in a technical scientific field
--BS/BA or equivalent Post-Secondary Degree
--Knowledge and experience with version control best practices and experience with version control software (e.g. Git)
--Ability to work within Linux-based computer systems
Desired Skills & Qualifications
--Familiarity with NOAA’s scientific raster and vector data sets (e.g. hydrodynamic model forecast guidance, satellite imagery, and in-situ weather and ocean observations) and scientific data formats (e.g. netCDF, GRIB2, and HDF5)
--Strong documentation and analytical skills
--Experience working in a technical/scientific field
Familiarity with AWS services is a plus (Lambda, EC2, S3, EKS, Cloudwatch, etc.)
--Familiarity with GeoServer and/or relational databases (e.g. PostgreSQL/PostGIS) is a plus
--Familiarity with React/node.js and front-end design is a plus
--Familiarity with container-based software development and deployment (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes) is a plus
--In order to meet the clearance requirements for this opportunity, candidates must be a US Citizen or Green Card Holder.
--Ability to pass a US Public Trust background investigation for access to the client site and computing systems. You must have lived in the US for the past three (3) years.
--All candidates will be subject to a complete background check to include, but not limited to Criminal History, Education Verification, Professional Certification Verification, Verification of Previous Employment and Credit History.
--The salary range for this position is $50,000 - $85,000.
