The GIS Manager oversees the activities and operations of the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in the Planning & Building Department. The Planning Department is responsible for developing, designing, implementing, and coordinating GIS data and services for other County departments and outside agencies. In addition to providing expert technical advice and assistance regarding the County’s GIS, the GIS Manager will support and assist with the daily work of the Planning & Building Department. Some supervision of other employees may be required. This position’s responsibilities also sometimes include answering phones, answering questions, data entry, and other similar office work. This position reports to the Planning & Building Administrator.
Experience
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a solid understanding of GIS software, systems, and concepts, along with a track record of accomplishment in this field.
In addition to an appropriate degree and GIS-related experience, the County values applicants who have experience working in local government planning. For applicants lacking a related degree, the County may consider any combination of education, training, and experience which provides the ability to succeed in this position. For promising applicants who lack some of the required work experience, the County may consider underfilling this position.
It is expected that all applicants will have a strong sense of professionalism and a commitment to providing good customer service. The successful candidate will not only be able to demonstrate their knowledge and training, but should also be able to explain their strengths and how they use them to achieve superior results.
Post-hire success will require not only subject matter knowledge, but good organizational skills, the ability to meet deadlines, good writing skills, and the ability to analyze and explain complex matters. Success in this position will also depend on being an exceptional listener.
In addition to the required qualifications, the following experience and skills are desirable: relevant professional certifications/licenses; a master’s degree or other advanced training; work experience in Idaho or the rural Mountain West; or any other information you think will help us understand who you are, what you can do, and what we need to provide to help you perform at your best level.
Salary:
The salary range for this position will depend on the applicant’s qualifications, but is anticipated to be between $30.10 and $39.03 per hour.
