It is characterized by small classes, a number of stellar academic programs, a beautiful campus perched about town, and a very multicultural student body. The Geosciences Department offers a Geology major and minor, as well as a GIS certificate. The GIS certificate is taken by students from all across campus (i.e. it is not geology-focused).

Fort Lewis College is located in beautiful Durango, Colorado, in the state's southwestern corner. Durango is a small town that lives bigger than it is, with great schools, hospitals, restaurants, and an airport. Durango has a snowmelt-fed river flowing through it, is surrounded by public lands, is culturally connected to the Native American communities in the region. Exceptional outdoor recreation (including skiing) is available within 30 minutes of campus.
