Position Description:

Land IQ, LLC is seeking a Remote Sensing Analyst in its Sacramento, California office. Land IQ specializes in providing solutions to challenging agricultural and environmental problems throughout the western United States. Our areas of expertise include soil science, water quality and demand evaluation, agricultural systems, salinity and nutrient management, ecosystem restoration, statistics, remote sensing, geospatial analysis, and regulatory policy. Land IQ helps clients develop high value, scientifically sound, proactive solutions to their complex, large-scale land based challenges.

The successful Remote Sensing Analyst candidate will be responsible for working with our growing geospatial team comprised of remote sensing/GIS experts and a range of agronomic, environmental, and science disciplines. Applicants must have strong analytical, remote sensing and GIS skills and strong theoretical and applied remote sensing understanding, including experience in both pixel- and object-based image analysis techniques and software. This is an environmental consulting position requiring ability to develop analysis approaches/methodology and work within a team to optimize methods. The applicant must have good communication skills, readily work in a team environment, demonstrate ability to manage multiple tasks and perform work on time and within budget resources. Strong theoretical and practical understanding of imagery interpretation and analysis as well as strong understanding of statistics, GIS concepts, and spatial data are required. Scripting abilities with Python are highly desired.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Work in a team environment on a wide range of projects, supporting our team of scientists, remote sensing analysts, and GIS analysts
- Organized and methodical with communication and work documentation
- Understand geospatial challenges and conceptualize and articulate analysis approach ideas within a multi-disciplinary team
- Develop and perform raster based imagery analysis procedures, spatial and statistical modeling applications, and basic raster spatial analysis
- Perform and develop advanced object based image analysis procedures and methodologies for earth science applications
- Develop and implement remote sensing methodologies to assess vegetative cover, health, and other characteristics
- Develop innovative image analysis solutions using a wide array of data sources
- Resourceful in seeking, preparing, and/or creating raster & vector data
- Leverage a strong understanding of multispectral imagery characteristics to solve complex agricultural and environmental land-based problems

Required Qualifications:

Education: BS/MS Remote Sensing/Geography field (advanced degree preferred)

Years Professional Experience: 2 5 (Consulting Preferred)

Required Technical Competencies:
- Raster based image analysis techniques (image orthorectification, geometric correction, change analysis, etc.)
- Advanced spatial analysis and geoprocessing, preferably familiar with ERDAS Imagine model builder and ArcGIS Arcpy package
- Familiar with image segmentation and object-based image analysis techniques and modeling
- Proficient at image classification algorithms, both supervised and unsupervised classification
- Designing, creating, editing, and maintaining geodatabases and metadata
- GIS data editing, GIS map production, spatial database management, and spatial analysis/reporting tasks

Required Software Application Skills:
- eCognition/Definiens (eCogntion Developer & Server) experience
- Experience with ERDAS IMAGINE suite including Model Builder tool
- Experience with ESRI ArcGIS suite (ArcCatalog, ArcMap, ArcToolbox)
- Strong statistics experience, specifically with R

Preferred Qualifications:
- Programming experience in Python with ESRI products
- Experience with LiDAR and RADAR
- Photo interpretation skill in crop mapping
- Proficiency in relational database environments (PostGres, SQL Server, MS Access, other relational databases)
- Programming in Python environment
