Position Description:

University of South Carolina/Institute for Families in Society/Medicaid Policy Research Division is seeking a GIS Web Analyst. The position will use Geographic Information System (GIS) software, tools and methods to generate both online and hard copy map products and conduct routine spatial analyses based on predefined procedures in a fast paced, applied research environment. The position will be responsible for MPR's online mapping presence and will work with Senior GIS staff to create conceptualized online products. Staff will be a member of a GIS unit using latest ESRI software (ArcGIS Desktop, Server, ArcGIS Pro, and ArcGIS Online) and ancillary tools (Excel, Access, Internet-based data sources, SQL Server). This position is established in support of expanded research activities and projects.
Bachelor's degree in geography, public health, earth sciences, life sciences, engineering, or related field and 2 years related GIS experience or an associate degree in geography and 4 years of GIS experience. Experience working with web-based application programming languages (Javascript, HTML, etc). Working knowledge and experience with ArcGIS Online and their web mapping tools and templates. Web experience required. Demonstrable expertise in cartographic design and production. Proven ability to conceptualize and complete complex projects with thorough documentation and demonstration of applied logic. Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, project leader, and co-workers both orally and in writing. Ability to work in a team environment as well as a goal-oriented individual who functions with the highest level of integrity and professionalism.
PREFERRED: Knowledge of public health concepts and methods. Experience working with health-related datasets and working with large data sets is desirable.
