Summary

The role of the Junior GIS Analyst includes assisting team members with building, maintaining, modifying, or using geographic information systems (GIS) databases. The Junior GIS Analyst performs a variety of technical work relative to the assigned area of responsibility including GIS, analysis, and computer aided drafting. The ideal candidate should have knowledge of basic mathematical principles, modern office procedures, methods and computer equipment.

Work on ongoing transportation, utility, environmental, urban planning, and other technical projects
Advise GIS Technicians & Interns


Essential Job Functions:

Analyze Geographic Information Systems (GIS) data to identify spatial relationships or display results of analyses, using maps, graphs, or tabular data
Maintain or modify existing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) databases
Review existing or incoming data for accuracy, usefulness, quality, or completeness of documentation
Consult with users to identify current and future business objectives
Capturing requirements using industry and enterprise standard geographic information system development frameworks and tools
Assist internal team with documentation, training, and usability efforts
Technical writing for both project deliverables and supporting marketing planning and projects, as needed


Desired Qualifications:

BA/BS in Geography, GIS, Geomatics or related field and 1-3 years of GIS experience preferred
Field work: Either a combination of 1-3 years of education in Engineering, Geography, or other related fields and GIS experience, or of GIS certificate and engineering experience
Advanced GIS software knowledge and experience including Esri GIS core products (e.g., ArcGIS, ArcGIS Online, Spatial Analyst) Familiarity with ArcGIS-based modeling
Experience working in AutoCAD jointly with GIS products
Database management experience
Use excellent verbal and written communication skills to update team with progress reports and updates
Maintain and organize a variety of records, reports and files
Must be able to multi-task and prioritize tasks within multiple ongoing projects
Ability to work independently and as a team in a fast paced, challenging, complex environment
