Entry to Mid-Level GIS Position Description:
RK&K is a leading Mid-Atlantic civil engineering, planning, and environmental consulting firm with over 1,200 employees serving both public and private clients. This position will support GIS technology application within a multi-disciplinary engineering firm to support a variety of transportation, planning, utility management, and natural systems projects. This will be a dynamic role that will include team coordination with opportunities to learn, research and problem-solve, and will include periods of field data collection. The ideal candidate will have approximately 2 years of applicable experience in GIS or a closely related field. This person will need to show a high capacity for technical learning as well as the ability to apply basic GIS principles for problem solving.
GIS skills should include:
Ability to compile and organize a variety of GIS data to build basic and/or complex environmental and community feature mapping.
Capable of basic geoprocessing tasks, as well as some experience with additional GIS analysis and tools.
Ability to create, edit, organize, and manage large datasets in different formats (ArcGIS, ASCII, Excel, etc.) and apply comprehensive QA/QC processes
Ability to work with a variety of data types (vector, raster, point clouds, imagery, etc.)
Familiarity with North Carolina GIS resources a plus, including Lidar, T&E species, soils, streams, landcover.
Knowledge, experience, or interest in UAS technology (drones) is a plus, and could become significant part of role
Familiarity with ESRI desktop platform is a must. Experience with additional GIS software, ArcGIS Online, and CAD (MicroStation), as well as field data collection are a plus
Basic technical skills should include:
Excellent verbal, research, technical writing and computer skills, with Microsoft Word and Excel experience
Detail-oriented, follows directions very well, eager to learn and is highly-reliable with a strong work-ethic
Willing to do a variety of office support tasks and fieldwork toward development of reports/studies for development/analysis of natural systems and transportation projects
Excellent at organizing information, tracking tasks/schedules, and handling a variety of projects/tasks
Exceptional attitude and ability to work in teams (polite, enthusiastic about work and respectful of others with different points of view)
Interested in multi-disciplinary coordination (e.g., roadway design, congestion management, hydraulic design, natural resources, historic architecture, archaeology, air quality, traffic noise, recreational resources, etc.) and public outreach toward the development of transportation projects (highway, rail and bridges)
Available for occasional day-long or over-night business travel for field data collection, meetings, and site visits (mostly within North Carolina or other states along the East Coast)
Full-time (40 hrs/week)
Salary is based on experience and a benefit package is available for full-time positions.
