Postdoctoral Fellow in Geospatial Health
Department of Preventive Medicine

The Department of Preventive Medicine at UMMC invites applications for a dynamic Postdoctoral position in the field of geospatial health. This position focuses on advancing the geospatial health initiatives at UMMC, including effectively conducting ongoing projects and contributing to the program's growth.
Conducts research while receiving advanced training from a designed principal investigator designed to enhance professional skills and research independence. (Research areas vary among departments and laboratories. Employment periods are typically temporary for a year, and renewal to the next level is expected according to satisfactory progress and found availability) and the postdoc training period is typically 5 years or less with annual evaluation of progress and funding availability to determine progression to next year training.

Key Responsibilities:
• Collaborate with faculty members specializing in geospatial health.
• Assist in preparing and submitting new grant proposals.
• Perform advanced spatial analyses using geospatial tools.
• Mentor and collaborate with doctoral students on research projects.
• Contribute to the development of scholarly works, including research papers, presentations, and training modules.

• Your contributions will play a pivotal role in enhancing the GIS and Remote Sensing program at UMMC, directly influencing its activities and reputation.

Education and Expertise:
• PhD in GIS, remote sensing, public health or a related field, with a focus on population health data analysis.
• Proven ability to conduct high-quality academic research, demonstrated by publications or other relevant outputs.
• Experience working with population health data, big data, and complex data visualization systems.
• Expertise in applying AI techniques (e.g., machine learning, transfer learning, NLP, large language models) to climate change initiatives and the built environment.
• Proficiency in handling and analyzing Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) data, including conceptual modeling, entity-relationship modeling, and system integration.
• Strong interdisciplinary collaboration skills, with a commitment to working with diverse research teams.
• Excellent teamwork and mentoring skills, particularly in guiding PhD and Master's students.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines effectively.
• Experience with hospital and clinical datasets is a plus.
• Strong documentation and communication skills are essential.

Excepted Skills:
• Proficiency in spatial statistics.
• Expertise in satellite remote sensing data analysis.
• Experience in developing applications using R.
• Skilled in ArcGIS, ERDAS, and ENVI for spatial analysis and application development.
• Proficiency in web-based applications and dashboard development, including dynamic, data-driven queries and visualizations.
• Experience in creating Dashboards, Story Maps, Web Maps, and Experiences.
• Ability to generate and manage SDOH datasets from various sources, including satellite remote sensing and public/private organizations.
