Title: Geospatial Systems Engineer
New Light Technologies Inc. (NLT), an industry-leading full stack data science engineering consultancy based in Washington DC, is currently seeking a full-time Geospatial Systems Engineer to join a team of talented scientists and technology professionals building and managing information solutions that support missions critical to our nationís communities, environment, economy, and public safety.
Working in an exciting multi-disciplinary environment among a team of talented and dedicated professionals, the candidate will design, develop, enhance, automate, maintain and administer enterprise geospatial and data science software, databases, web applications and cloud infrastructure. The candidate will lead the design and implementation of solutions for automating software deployment and the development of data pipelines and interoperability solutions in cloud computing environments that support a range of critical real-time analytics, visualizations, dashboards and decision support systems - primarily, but not limited to, of geospatial data. This position requires a leader, innovator and problem-solver with solid systems engineering, cloud, and management experience and expertise with a range of geospatial software applications. This position also requires experience developing and designing new projects and solutions, coordinating projects between multiple teams with many stakeholders in a pro-active, enthusiastic communication style.
Provide administration of enterprise geospatial software and database architectures
Develop and manage automated infrastructure and software deployment solutions
Support development of data processing workflows and automation and incorporation of data and models into web and mobile applications, decision support tools, etc.
Support development of enterprise data management platforms (search, discovery, processing, visualization, dissemination)
Assist in the design, setup, configuration, and migration of systems to commercial cloud environments
Perform Server setup and maintenance on current Windows operating systems, Linux operating systems, client access software, and other client-server software applications that may be needed.
Research and consult on new releases, patches and/or enhancements to the operating systems and security environment
Perform application & OS Security monitoring, virus scans, alerts and perform corrective action including patching
Work with application owners to formulate, troubleshoot and document application installation and maintenance
Support the development of data/system access, authorization, and identity management solutions
Use a version control system for code, such as git, subversion, Github, etc as part of a CI/CD process.
Advise, support and guide junior staff members
Thorough understanding of enterprise GIS software, data, methodologies, and challenges
Strong skills with a variety of GIS software including ESRI Portal, Geoevent Server, Imageserver, AGOL, PostGres, PostGIS, ArcGIS, QGIS, ENVI, MapBox, Leaflet, etc.
Experience and knowledge of building and maintaining server-side systems
Skills working in Linux and Windows environments (strong Linux skills desired) including software scripting in Python and shell environments
Strong skills and experience developing solutions in AWS or Azure cloud
Experience and knowledge of building and maintaining web applications and websites
Experience building visualizations, maps, charts, dashboards, Common Operational Pictures (COPs) etc.
Experience working with different databases and data types (PostGres, SQLServer, Mongo, APIs etc.)
Familiarity with different formats of geospatial data
Experience with data integration, cleansing, ETL, data processing, data warehousing etc.
Experience with Earth, scientific social, demographic, economic, and real-time data
Familiarity with Agile and Scrum methodologies
Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Strong writing, communication, and documentation, presentation skills
A Bachelor's or Masterís Degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Information Systems, Geography, Environmental Science, or related field preferred
Candidates must be U.S. Citizens and have the ability to obtain and hold U.S. Government security clearance
