JOB SUMMARY

This position performs specialized duties in support of the development and maintenance of geographic information system (GIS) databases and related applications.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Web Development – Customize ‘off-the shelf’ web maps and web applications.
ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Enterprise – Share and manage web services, web maps and web applications in AGOL and GIS for Portal as per City of Gillette, GIS standards.
Collaboration - Have knowledge of the working of different divisions in a City entity.
Begin to provide mentoring and training on GIS information to other department staff.
Data Management – Create, organize and maintain accurate locations and details about assets and resources.
Provide quality control to specific inhouse data capture, and evaluate data acquired from other City divisions and outside of the organization.
Data Analysis - Manipulate GIS data to create information products (map layouts, maps, web maps, web applications and dashboards) to meet discipline specific needs.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

• Working knowledge of ArcGIS Enterprise or ArcGIS Desktop.
• Knowledge of GIS concepts and methodology.
• Experience with SDE versioned database principles.
• Knowledge of data analysis principles.
• Skill in interpreting drawings, maps, plats, legal documents, and surveys.
• Skill in the production of maps, web maps and other GIS products.
• Skill in prioritizing and planning.
• Excellent customer service, troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to learn new concepts quickly, process large amounts of information and adapt to a changing work environment.
• Skill in oral and written communication.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

The Information Technology Manager assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.

GUIDELINES

Guidelines include ESRI best practices and department and city policies and procedures. These guidelines require judgment, selection, and interpretation in application.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK

• The work consists of varied specialized duties. The need for accuracy and the need to coordinate activities with a variety of users contribute to the complexity of the position.
• The purpose of this position is to provide specialized support for GIS data development and maintenance operations. Successful performance helps ensure the accuracy of GIS information.

• Contacts are typically with coworkers, other city employees, and members of the public.
• Contacts are typically to exchange information, identify problems, resolve problems, and provide services.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT

• The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table. The employee occasionally lifts light objects and must distinguish between shades of color.
• The work is typically performed in an office or outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather.

None.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• An undergraduate degree in GIS studies, geography, or related fields AND two years’ experience in the GIS industry
OR
• Five years’ experience in the GIS industry.
