Position Description:


This position requires a self-motivated problem solver to support the development; implementation and maintenance of an ESRI based GIS system. This position will report to the GIS Administrator.

General Position Description:
The GIS Technician’s responsibilities will be to maintain, update and assign City addressing for inclusion in E911 and City Enterprise software systems; maintain and update GIS data sets and related information, including production of mapping products for internal and external use. These responsibilities include: GIS data creation, maintenance, updating and quality control/quality assurance; GIS data entry, attributing, and metadata creation; GIS map production and output; global positioning system (GPS) data collection and coordination with field staff. Secondary responsibilities may include general PC troubleshooting and ordering of computer-related supplies. Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications for Position:
• Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Computer Science, Planning, or closely related field.
• Minimum of one year experience in a GIS-related position.
• Proficiency in ArcGIS Desktop and ArcGIS Pro.
• Experience authoring web maps and apps in ArcGIS Online or Portal is a plus.
• Familiarity with GPS technology, data collection, and integration with GIS software.
• Strong troubleshooting, communications, and interpersonal skills.

Special Requirement: Possession of a valid NC Driver’s License.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Work is normally light with occasional periods of vigorous activity, including walking over uneven ground, standing, stooping, and crouching. Visual acuity to review written correspondence, email, and other documents; prepare and analyze data, maps and reports; and to read a computer terminal is required. Extended amounts of time in front of computer terminal will not be unusual. An employee must possess the ability to hear. The employee is predominantly subject to inside environment conditions although activities occur inside and outside; however, the employee is not exposed to adverse environmental conditions.

Salary Range: $43,062.24 - $71,063.41
