GIS Analyst
Location: Maple Grove, MN

Within our growing HEI geo sector (Houston Engineering Inc. - GIS | Water & Environmental), we specialize in development of web, mobile and GIS applications for a variety of clients around the U.S. Our work is conducted from multiple offices throughout the Midwest, but our reach goes well beyond the Midwest. Currently we have an immediate opening for a GIS Analyst in our Maple Grove, MN office.

Essential Functions
Assists in managing GIS projects and performing GIS duties such as collect, manage, create, and edit spatial data for incorporation into analyses, graphics, maps, and projects.
Participates in all aspects of GIS analysis, including design, analysis, scripts, testing, documentation, training and user support.
Performs mapping and data analysis tasks including producing graphic and tabular data.
Collects, creates, edits, operates, maintains, analyzes, distributes, and plots simple and complex GIS/GPS data.
Prepares technical reports and proposals and provides technical support to project managers.
Works with various database, spreadsheet, and text editing programs to enter, edit, and or convert data for use in GIS systems.
Provide GIS analysis in support of watershed planning and water quality study projects.

Likely Projects
Create maps, data and perform analysis for a variety of water resources studies and modeling projects.
Hydro conditioning elevation data and watershed delineation to support drainage, flood control watershed planning projects.
Compile geodatabases, perform floodplain mapping and compile maps for FEMA flood insurance studies and maps.

Education, Experience and Skills
Minimum 2-year degree in GIS from an accredited technical college or program
3 or more years of experience in the GIS field using ArcGIS desktop software
Experience with raster GIS or ESRI’s spatial analysis extension
Knowledge of python scripting or model builder for ArcGIS Desktop
Experience with ArcGIS Online, and enterprise spatial databases
Must have the ability to work both independently and collaboratively, as well as take initiative to resolve issues.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, on technical mapping and GIS issues
Strongly desire previous experience working with or for Watershed districts, Soil Water Conservation District (SWCD) or County water resource departments
Strongly desired project experience with water resources, natural resources, agricultural conservation, or environmental related projects
