Position Description:
The GIS Specialist will work with team members to prepare maps, acquire, and analyze spatial data, develop, and implement cartographic standards, and produce professional reports. Designs and produces selected thematic map data and applications of moderate difficulty and complexity and participates in the design and maintenance of the GIS database. The GIS Specialist will assist with a variety of project types including military and private sector work.
REQUIREMENTS
GIS Data Creation and Maintenance:
Curate public and private data from various sources to incorporate and maintain an up-to-date geodatabase(s) and on ArcGIS Online (AGOL)
Review existing or incoming data for currency, accuracy, usefulness, quality, or completeness of documentation/metadata
Coordinate the acquisition and/or creation of new data as needed for project development
Perform ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) using data interoperability tools
Cartographic Production & GIS Analysis:
Produce thematic maps for a variety of projects using ArcGIS Pro 3.x and ArcMap 10.8.x
Establish cartographic design standards for high quality map production and presentations, including creating map templates for use in ArcGIS Pro and ArcMap
Analyze land use data and other spatial environmental data such as soils, hydrology, sea level rise, species distribution and habitat, and other landscape level characteristics for GIS-based analyses such as site suitability/constraints and watershed delineation
Web GIS and other GIS-related Activities:
Create web maps and apps in AGOL for internal and external use
Assist with the administration and maintenance of AGOL
Train staff in use of GIS (e.g. basic map making, how to use web maps and apps)
Provide GIS technical support for staff and projects
Assist with writing proposals/scope of work as needed
Minimum Qualification Requirements:

Education/Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Geography, GIS, Urban Planning, Natural Resources, or a related field or equivalent with 4 or more years of GIS work experience preferred. Associates degree with 4 or more years of work experience may be considered.
A minimum of 3 years of professional experience in GIS using Esri software suite
Computer/Technical Skills
Must have solid skillset with ESRI software suite (ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Pro, StoryMap, Fieldmap, Survey123, etc.) for cartographic production work, 2D/3D spatial analyses, and web mapping.
Experience with using GPS for data collection and supporting staff in fieldwork
Experience with data interoperability, in particular working with CAD/BIM data formats would be a plus
Experience with open-source GIS (e.g. QGIS) cloud-based platforms is a plus
Experience working ESRI licensing.
Other Skills
Solid understanding of GIS principles and practices and proven ability to troubleshoot and understand the applications of GIS.
Experience in the Architectural, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) and Urban/Environmental Planning preferred
Ability to explain technical GIS information to non-technical clients and team members.
Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively in a multi-disciplinary team environment
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
