SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
The Systems Engineering GIS team supports Infrastructure Maintenance and Construction Services (IMCS) and Amtrak’s Engineering disciplines—Track, Communications & Signals (C&S), Bridges & Buildings (Structures), Electric Traction (ET), and Maintenance of Way (MoW) Equipment—by maintaining a complete, location-based asset inventory; providing data analytics and design calculations; providing the asset data used by the IMCS Asset Management System, Maximo; developing the asset data dictionaries used to define Amtrak’s asset information hierarchies and develop asset management strategy; and developing end user GIS-based tools for data collection and analysis. The GIS team continually works to build Amtrak’s capabilities for geospatial analysis to better understand IMCS data and contribute to strategic solutions to business problems.



The Senior GIS Analyst responsible for updating, maintaining, documenting, and ensuring high data accuracy in the Esri Geodatabase, GIS applications, and Maximo Database for Track, ET, C&S, and Structures assets. The Senior GIS Analyst coordinates field activities to ensure efficient asset collection for the Asset Information Team and manages consultants performing field asset collection. The Senior GIS Analyst works with the Engineering Asset Management (EAM) Team to confirm asset updates are accurately reflected on Maximo work orders and inspections. The Senior GIS Analyst works with the Data Analytics Team to assist with data integration workflows to provide quality data analytic end-products to our end-uses in an efficient and effective manner.




ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Update location and asset attribute information in the Engineering Asset Database and Maximo, as well as ArcGIS applications and web maps, when reconfiguration and additions are made in the field.
Interface with stakeholders to collect required master data using various IMCS tools to incorporate the updates and changes into the Asset Database, ultimately feeding Maximo.
Systematically expand the master asset list, components and sub-assemblies, and the mandatory attributes as required for inspections, tests, and work management.
As part of the work order reporting procedure:
Validate and incorporate asset change information into the Geodatabase from the EAM work orders at completion of the work.
Incorporate manual and automated inspection results as inspection work orders are submitted to Maximo.
Process collected data using LiDAR Survey post-processing software, CAD software, and GIS software in preparation for import into Maximo and Geodatabase.
Conduct field asset collection, as needed.
Coordinate with the Engineering Asset Management team to ensure asset updates are reflected in Maximo work orders and inspections.
Use software to overlay maps and datasets and query them based on spatial relationships.




MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Geography, Geographic Information Science, or a related field, with a minimum of 3 years’ experience.
In lieu of education, a minimum of 7 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education, training, and work experience.
Minimum of 3 years of Transportation, Railroad, or related field experience.
3 years of experience with Esri ArcGIS desktop and enterprise products, knowledge of GIS data types, GPS collection, relational database management systems (RDBMS), spatial analysis, and cartography.
Ability to collect, manage, analyze, model, document, and present geographic or spatial data.
Experience with automating GIS processes and applications using Arcade, SQL, Python, etc.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Master of Science Degree in Civil Engineering, Geography, Computer Science, Geographic Information Science, or a related field, with a minimum of 5 years of experience.
In lieu of education, a minimum of 9 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education, training, and work experience.
4 years of experience with Esri applications including ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, ArcPro, Survey123, etc.
Experience with programming languages (SQL, R, Python), front end design languages (HTML, CSS, JavaScript), developer packages such as Jupyter Notebooks.
Asset management experience or IAM training.




WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Office and field work environment.
Travel 10 – 25%.
Travel to other Amtrak office and right-of-way sites that are not accessible by train travel will be required.

Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.





The salary/hourly range is $78,600 - $113,200. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, internal equity, etc. Depending on an employee’s assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee’s base salary.
