Job Summary

This position provides support and maintenance of the County's Geographic Information Systems (GIS) operational plans to meet the County's spatial data requirements. Work involves a variety of production tasks concerning mapping for a variety of internal and external customers. The employee works closely with personnel in various County Departments. Work is performed under Federal, State, County, and departmental policies/procedures, County Ordinances, and Georgia Plat Act. Department management assigns work in terms of detail and general instructions, and reviews work for accuracy and the nature and propriety of the final results.

Essential Functions

Provides basic GIS expertise and converts customer requests into formal specifications. Develops detailed gee-spatial mappings using appropriate tools, methods, and techniques.

Operates computer workstation to update maps as new data is received relative to new developments or projects.

Obtains, organizes, and maintains spatially correct data/information about Rockdale County; distributes to internal and external customers.

Helps to maintain inventory of county-owned structural facilities including roads, rights-of-way, and fire hydrants.

Reviews submitted plans for accuracy and compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations after Level 11 G&/1/CC, (Certified Plan Reviewer).

Updates spatial databases as new data is received relative to new developments, projects, or information.

Performs specialty mapping requests as needed.

Familiarity with ArcGISOnline (AGOL).

Ability to manage licenses.

Provides documentation as necessary.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of departmental and county policies and procedures.

Knowledge of the principles, concepts, and methodology of information technology.

Knowledge of Computer-Aided Drafting (CAD) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software, specifically Micro-station and ArcGIS.

Knowledge of data entry, editing, and manipulation procedures for ArcGIS. Skill in logical database design, concepts, and technologies.

Skill in operating modern office equipment.

Skill in using independent judgment and discretion. Skill in working on multiple complex projects.

Ability to read and interpret engineered drawings and surveys.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with elected officials, appointed officials, employees, and the general public.

Ability to assemble information and make written reports and documents in a concise, clear, and effective manner.

Ability to communicate effectively.

Ability to sit, stand, walk, occasionally lift heavy objects, and use tools and equipment requiring dexterity.

Working Conditions
Work is performed primarily in an office; however, a considerable amount of work is performed in the field.

Minimum Qualifications
1. Bachelor's degree in Geography, Computer Sciences, or a related field and/or college-level certification in GIS.

2. Three (3) years of work experience in the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) field in the public arena.

3. OR have a combination of education, training, and work experience that is equivalent to #1 and# 2 above and provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

4. Current and valid State of Georgia driver's license
